After significant effort, legal preparation, and community support, the planned nonprofit purchase of KFIL AM 1060 was ultimately not completed.

A sale agreement had been initiated with the goal of preserving the station as a locally focused nonprofit service for Preston and Fillmore County. We remain grateful that this opportunity was seriously considered and that a path toward local stewardship was briefly possible.

At the same time, larger changes were taking place within the market, including the sale of the longtime Preston broadcast facility and consolidation of operations to Rochester. Although the purchase did not move forward, the effort reflected strong local support for preserving community-based radio service in southeast Minnesota.

In this case, a locally driven nonprofit effort to preserve and strengthen community radio ultimately gave way to broader corporate priorities. While disappointing, it highlights the challenges facing local broadcasting in an era of increasingly centralized ownership.

We sincerely thank everyone who offered encouragement, financial support, and belief in this mission. Your support confirmed what we believed from the beginning: that local radio still matters, and that communities like Preston deserve media that reflects local voices, local concerns, and local identity.

Although this effort was not successful, we remain proud of what was accomplished and grateful to everyone who stood behind it.

KFIL deserved another chapter rooted in local stewardship.

We were ready to write it.
